Ok so in this article we are going to teach you how to cut a pineapple the proper way.  Cutting a pineapple can be a simple task, but for someone who has never done it before it can be an intimidating one.  The first thing you need to do is prepare your work space.  Clear off a decent amount of space on your counter so you can work freely, and wipe it off with a sponge or a paper towel, we want to ensure that when you are working with food the preparation area is sanitary.  The next step is to drag out your cutting board, and give that a good wipe down as well; they gather dust when they aren’t in use and who wants a dusty snack?  The final step in the preparation phase is to take out and ensure your knife is sharp; a dull knife makes the slicing harder.  You will need a butcher or bread knife for your initial cuts, and a steak knife for the detail work.

This is where it gets fun, and we get into what you came here for, how to cut a pineapple!  First step is to lay that baby down on its side and using your butcher’s knife remove the stalk, aka the leafy green part.  Once the stalk is removed, go down about one inch or a fingers width from where you removed the stalk, and slice off the top at that point, once again using the butcher’s knife.  Once the top is removed, flip it over and repeat the process with the bottom of the pineapple.

At this point it is time to switch to your smaller knife to begin the fine detail work of removing the skin.  You can continue to use your large knife if you feel the need, but it is not recommended.  Stand the pineapple upright and begin to shave the skin off of the pineapple following its natural curve.  Once you have completed this step, set the fruit to the side and clean your board.

Now we have reached the second to last step in how to cut a pineapple, and it is by far the easiest part.  Set your shaved pineapple on the cutting board once more and place your knife across the top of the fruit in the vicinity of the center.  Put gentle downward pressure on the knife and slice it in half.  Lay the two halves on the cutting board and slice them in half again.  Continue to repeat this step until the cubes have reached your desired size.

Now my friends you have reached the last, and tastiest step of all in how to cut a pineapple.  Enjoy the “fruits” of your labor before you share them with anyone else.  Yes you cut it so it is only fair that the first bite goes to you.
